PolarOnyx's Uranus SeriesCurrently manufactured laser systems using femtosecond pulses of light are based on solid-state oscillator/amplifier technology designed originally for use in the scientific research market. These systems are usually bulky, expensive and difficult to use for many practical or high-throughput applications. They can also suffer from thermal distortion at high energy levels. PolarOnyx Inc. has developed an all-fiber-based femtosecond laser system that offers a comparatively high pulse repetition rate (up to 2 MHz), high energy (up to 50 µJ) and high power (up to 50 W). One of the key technologies that makes the Uranus Series – 50 micro-J 1 MHz High Energy Femtosecond Fiber Laser possible is the manipulation of both the waveguide and fiber material to produce a more effective means of managing third-order dispersion. This allows the dispersion of the entire fiber system to be matched and compensated.
