Vertical cavity surface emitting laser driver

VI Systems GmbH introduced the A25-120C VCSEL (vertical cavity surface emitting laser) driver integrated circuit for optical data transmission. This VCSEL driver chip is designed for the use in high speed optical transceivers with serial data rates of 25 Gbit/s and 28 Gbit/s.

Multifunction USB analog output modules

Multifunction USB analog output modules

ACCES I/O Products, Inc. announced the latest addition to its line of small form factor USB-based data acquisition and control I/O modules—the USB-AO Series. This line consists of 12 and 16-bit USB modules.

Pixel Sub-Stepping, Resolution Enhancement

Pixel Sub-Stepping, Resolution Enhancement

Camera systems and scanners must have high resolutions. This creates difficulties for all applications where low light intensity means neither the resolution of the chip nor the exposure time for changing or moving objects can be freely chosen. In a new paper, Physick Instrumente details how to increase the resolution of these sensor chips.

Programmable stepper motor drive

Programmable stepper motor drive

Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions introduced the Haydon RoHS compliant IDEA programmable stepper motor drive. The IDEA Drive is a compact electronic drive and fully programmable control unit with a patent pending graphic user interface.

Strain gage simulator boards

Strain gage simulator boards

United Electronic Industries (UEI) released the DNx-AO-358 simulated Strain Gage output boards. The boards are available in two models—the DNA version, for use with UEI’s PowerDNA Cubes and the DNR version, for rack-mounting in a PowerDNR RACKtangle, or HalfRACK chassis.

Specialized beamforming module for PC platforms

Specialized beamforming module for PC platforms

Pentek is introducing two beamformer PCIe modules to its expansive product line. Each is a high-speed software radio board for processing baseband RF or IF signals and incorporates powerful beamforming functions. Created to accelerate system level design and lower system cost, the boards bring high-performance built-in features and connectivity to PC platforms.

Much ado about next to nothing

Much ado about next to nothing

The recent review of the past 10 years of the National Nanotechnology Initiative--as presented by the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology--suggested the rise of nanomanufacturing as the near future of nanotechnology. But the actual proposed funding reflects a cautious approach, even about nanotech in general.

Lunar tires, space MRSA, and resonating microfluidics

I typically attend the annual Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy each year in pursuit of specific coverage. This year, I sought out candidates for coverage in a vacuum technology article, and pulled together some instruments for a spectroscopy guide. But as busy as that kept me, it wasn’t all mass spectrometers and vacuum pumps on the show floor.
