the Maya, blue was the color of the gods, a pigment without equal with
regard to boldness, beauty, and durability. Made of indigo embedded in a
special clay mineral called palygorskite, Maya blue was prepared in a
way that ancitipated modern syntheses of organic-inorganic hybrid
materials, a recent study reports.
