A North Dakota man with leukemia has been accepted into a clinical trial program in Seattle.
The Bismarck Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1MII6gS ) that Matt Jahner is being treated at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle using immunotherapy, an experimental treatment that involves using a patient's own immune system to kill cancer cells.
Jahner was a junior at Dickinson High School when he was diagnosed in 2008 with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He underwent chemotherapy and the disease went into in remission, but it came back in 2013. Umbilical cord transplants provided additional help, but Jahner relapsed in March.
Dr. Cameron Turtle says the trial has been going on for two and a half years, and the research center has worked with more than 100 patients.
