Pharmaceutical processes require the highest quality of end products because human lives depend on them. In-process measurements are important in determining that quality, so researchers at Endress+Hauser Conducta, Gerlingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, have developed the Middle-Infrared (MIR) Spectrometer, a compact and robust spectrometer that can be installed directly in-process by means of standard retractable 12-mm assemblies. It allows fast and precise determination of concentrations and is easy to handle, can be adapted to different processes, can be used in hazardous areas, and is easy to clean. Its measured process values are continuously transferred to the process control system, and, combined with a calibration routine, results in a complete in-process system.
