In case you haven’t been keeping track, the Burj Dubai, is closing in on its final height. A little less than a year from now, United Arab Emirates biggest public works stunt yet will be a strong contender for the world’s tallest human-made structure ever.
It’s already the highest structure in the world, surpassing a radiomast in the U.S. that exceeds 2,000 feet in height. According to a website collecting facts about the semi-secret construction project, it will be between 160 and 189 stories high when completed, but it’s 160-story mark as of this month and there’s still a year to go before the building’s completion.
Of course, judging from recent photos, the time-consuming work of installing the exterior panels and outfitting the interior is still to be done.
This photo captures some measure of the scale of the building, which has little else to compare with on the Dubai skyline.
