2008 R&D 100 AWARDS ANNOUNCED

July 22, 2008

Magazine Spotlights Best Tech Innovations of the Year
CHICAGO – R&D Magazine has announced that the winners of the 46th Annual R&D 100 Awards have been selected and will be announced at an awards banquet in Chicago on October 16. The awards salute the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace over the past year. A full list of this year’s winners is available at our R&D 100 Awards page.

Since 1963, the awards have honored many revolutionary technologies introduced to the market and helped shape everyday life for many Americans. These have included the flashcube (1965), the automated teller machine (1973), the halogen lamp (1974), the fax machine (1975), the liquid crystal display (1980), the printer (1986), Taxol anticancer drug (1993) and HDTV (1998).

“The R&D 100 Awards recognize the extensive efforts by the individuals who conceptualize, design and produce the final products,” said Martha Walz, editor-in-chief of R&D Magazine. “These prestigious awards give public acknowledgement that, not only is the technology or product exceptionally innovative and fills a need in the market, but that it also delivers on its promises.”

The winning of an R&D 100 Award provides a mark of excellence known to industry, government, and academia as proof that the product is one of the most innovative ideas of the year. This helps provide an important initial push a new product needs to compete successfully in the marketplace.

Winners of the R&D 100 Awards are selected by an independent judging panel and the editors of R&D Magazine. The publication and its online portal serve research scientists, engineers, and other technical staff members at high tech industrial companies and public and private laboratories around the world.

Winners will be recognized at the R&D 100 Awards Banquet on Oct. 16, 2008, in Chicago. A full list and details about the winning innovations are at the R&D 100 Awards page. Additional information, including registration for the Chicago event, is also available at that website.
