Techno Slowdown?
According to a report released Monday by Forrester Research Inc., U.S. companies and government agencies are expected to increase their spending on information technology by 2.8 % in 2008. In addition, Forrester expects the worldwide tech market to grow 6%. This sounds good to me, but because the research company had originally anticipated a 4.6 % growth in America, and a 9% gain worldwide, some are taking this data to mean a recession is looming on the horizon. Is this a matter of seeing the glass half empty as opposed to being half full?
Somehow I don’t think technology will be put by the wayside; other things, yes, but not technology. I know people who turn their thermostat down to 58° F, and don’t have health insurance because it’s costly, but have MP3 players, Wii consoles, laptops, large screen HDTVs, and cell phones. Now I know the reports weren’t talking about individuals, but companies wouldn’t make it if people didn’t buy it. Let’s face it; we’re hooked on high-tech. Just look at the long lines of people willing to pay premium prices camping out in front of computer stores on blustery winter nights just to be the first on their block to get the latest gizmos and gadgets. No, between being dependent upon IMing and DVRing, we’re a wreck without our tech.
