RD100 2009 Zebron ZB Drug2009 R&D 100 Winner

For many years, the status quo for gas chromatography has been that analysis of drugs of abuse takes a long time and that samples will always be in backlog. Phenomenex Inc.’s (Torrance, Calif.) Zebron ZB-Drug-1 GC column is a capillary gas chromatography (GC) column that addresses this problem with quick and accurate analysis of drugs of abuse. The Zebron ZB-Drug-1 GC has an engineered self cross-linking bonding technology, which provides enhanced column durability and low bleed levels. This contributes to better and more accurate quantitation. Its new, unique stationary phase allows the column to separate compounds that typically co-elute for a more accurate analysis. As a result, analysis of drugs of abuse is accomplished two to eight times faster than previously possible. Instead of only being able to analyze 1,000 samples a day, labs using this column could analyze up to 3,000 samples a day.
