Missouri's largest electric utility says it will seek a $263 million rate increase from state regulators.

AmerenUE announced its intent Friday to file the request with the Missouri Public Service Commission. The agency approved a $226 million increase for AmerenUE in May of this year.

The utility says the $263 million increase would amount to roughly 11 percent for all customers. Ameren says the average Missouri residential customer would pay about 31 cents more per day, or roughly $9 per month.

AmerenUE serves about 1.2 million customers, mostly in eastern and central Missouri.

The company says it needs the increase to pay for infrastructure and environmental improvements. It says the biggest portion — about $110 million — would help pay for scrubbers at its Sioux power plant in St. Charles.
