Garmin to use 3-D maps from Intermap

Satellite navigation company Garmin Ltd. will use three-dimensional maps from Intermap Technologies under a three-year agreement announced Monday.

Under the agreement, Denver-based Intermap will give Garmin elevation data for the U.S. and Western Europe from its NextMap database. Garmin will add terrain rendering to its handheld products for hikers and other outdoor users. It also plans add elevation content across its product line, including car navigation systems.

Financial details weren't disclosed. Garmin products using NextMap are expected to reach the market in the first half of 2010.
