The Associated Press has found that Texas Instruments' CEO's compensation for 2009 grew 2 percent in 2009 as most Americans struggled with the recession.

Rich Templeton's pay in 2009 was $9.8 million, up from $9.6 million.

Demand for TI's chips, which go into everything from flat-screen televisions to medical imaging systems, fell during the recession. The company's revenue in 2009 was 17 percent below 2008. Its net income dropped 23 percent.

The AP's calculation is based on a regulatory filing and aims to isolate the value that the company's board placed on the CEO's total compensation package. The figure includes salary, bonus, incentives, perks and the value of stock options and awards when they were granted.
