The Associated Press has found that EMC Corp. CEO Joe Tucci received a 2009 pay package of $9.0 million, which was 23 percent lower than the year before.

His pay package in 2008 was valued at $11.7 million, according to calculations by The AP.

EMC is the world's leading maker of data-storage machines. Its sales last year were hurt by the recession as companies delayed buying new computing hardware. The company has cut about 2,400 jobs over the past year.

The AP calculation is based on a regulatory filing. It aims to isolate the value company boards place on CEOs' total compensation package. It includes salary, bonus, incentives, perks and the estimated value of stock options and awards.
