More than 27,000 homes and businesses in southwestern Connecticut remain without power, four days after a powerful rain and wind storm hit the state.

Connecticut Light & Power Co. is reporting nearly 13,000 outages in Greenwich, 5,000 in Stamford and 3,100 in Darien on Wednesday morning. CL&P is hoping to have most of the outages fixed by Wednesday night.

The United Illuminating Co. says it has restored power to nearly all its customers who lost electricity during the storm, which knocked down scores of trees and utility wires.

Complaints about slow response by the two utilities led Gov. M. Jodi Rell on Tuesday to ask state regulators to investigate how they handled the outages. Spokesmen for both companies say crews responded aggressively.
