J.M. Smucker Co. plans to close its plant in West Fargo that makes crustless peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

More than 140 employees will lose their jobs when the factory shuts in April. A Smucker's spokeswoman says the company plans to consolidate production of its Uncrustables sandwiches in Scottsville, Ky.

Smucker has been talking about shutting its West Fargo plant for more than six years. The company began operating a new factory in Scottsville in 2004, where it makes flavored waffles and the Uncrustables peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Smucker announced last February that it was expanding capacity at the Scottsville plant.

Smucker is based in Orrville, Ohio. In its most recent quarterly report, the food company said it had more than doubled its net income, from $51.4 million to $140 million. Smucker credited much of the growth to its acquisition of the Folgers coffee brand.
