A potash worker has been killed after a storage bin collapsed on him, burying him in potash ore at the Mosaic Co.'s K-2 mine near Esterhazy, Sask.

Another man was taken to hospital in Regina after the accident, which took place about 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

Mosaic spokeswoman Chandra Pratt says that worker's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

So far there's no word on what caused the bin to fail.

Pratt says although names have not been released, both employees are from the Esterhazy area.

Pratt says surface crews at the mine have been sent home while RCMP and the provincial mine safety unit investigate what caused the bin to collapse.

"It's a dark day for us and we do extend our deepest sympathy to the family and we'll do whatever we can to help support them," said Pratt.
