Atwood Oceanics lands 1-well drilling contract

Drilling contractor Atwood Oceanics Inc. said Monday it received a contract from Helis Oil & Gas Co. to provide drilling at a well in the Gulf of Mexico at a daily rate of $33,500.

Drilling will take between 60 to 80 days. The company said it is pursuing other one-well drilling opportunities after the completion of the contract in early to mid February.

Shares of Atwood fell a penny to $37.62 in afternoon trading.
