Two more United Auto Workers locals have voted down changes in their contract with Ford Motor Co., further jeopardizing passage of the deal.
Workers at a local in Saline, Mich., west of Detroit, voted 75 percent against the deal on Wednesday. Research and engineering center employees in Dearborn, Mich., voted roughly 90 percent against the deal.
An exact tally of the votes so far was not available Wednesday night. At least eight UAW locals representing about 12,500 workers have rejected the deal, while four locals with a total of 7,000 members have approved it.
Ford sought the deal to bring its labor costs in line with Detroit rivals Chrysler and General Motors. But workers have objected to a limit on the right to strike, work rule changes and other items.
