State officials say a Massachusetts company has been chosen to plan an $80 million project for improving the U.S. 190 Bridge over the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge.

TRC Companies Inc. has said the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development planning project is valued at between $1.5 million and $3 million.

But Lauren Lee, a spokeswoman for DOTD, says the price is still "under negotiation."

Despite those continuing negotiations, Lee said, TRC has been contracted as the project planner.

The 12,200-foot-long Huey P. Long Bridge was built in 1940. Lee said the structure has not been overhauled since 1989, which marked the conclusion of a four-year, $15 million project that widened the roadway from 20 to 24 feet.
