PPG Industries Inc., which supplies paints, coatings, optical products and specialty materials, said Tuesday it named Robert J. Dellinger senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer.

He replaces William H. Hernandez, who will remain chief financial officer until Oct. 15. In May, the company said Hernandez would transition out of the position by the end of 2009.

Dellinger, 49, most recently worked as chief financial officer at Delphi Corp., with prior roles at Sprint Corp. and General Electric Co.

Shares of PPG fell 79 cents to $54.61 in midday trading.
