BOMA, the Building Owners and Managers Assn., has partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council and 13 other organizations in a report urging President Obama to improve sustainable building without requiring new legislation. "Better Buildings Through Executive Action" urges leveraging existing authorities to promote energy efficiency and sustainability in multifamily residential and commercial buildings. The report identifies about 100 opportunities across 30 existing federal programs. Recommended measures include releasing updated guidance on the use of Section 179D (the deduction for energy-efficient commercial buildings); facilitating use of widely recognized residential energy-efficiency labels; and implementing all cost-effective retrofits identified through audits carried out by federal agencies. http://bit.ly/xFWjPm
