The annual State of Green Business Report, recently released by greenbiz.com, indicates that "things aren't going as well as we hoped," according to executive editor Joel Makower. For the first time since the report was inaugurated in 2008, a number of indicators have taken a downward turn, including cleantech investments, energy efficiency, green office space, packaging intensity, toxic emissions, and toxins in manufacturing. Only green power use markedly improved, among the 20 indicators the report tracks. Though corporate respondents report a continued commitment to sustainability, the long-term recession has squeezed good intentions and caused stagnation in multiple areas.
