Description: The Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine comprises a consortium of five life science research leaders: The Salk Institute for Biological Studies, The Scripps Research Institute, the Sanford/Burnham Medical Research Institute, The University of California-San Diego, and the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology. The collaborating organizations will focus on stem cell growth and differentiation, neuroscience, cardiovascular biology, and blood cell development. The new facility is located adjacent to the Salk Institute and UCSD campus. Upon completion, 330 researchers and associated staff will occupy open laboratories, offices, and specialized core laboratories. Conference facilities include a 150-seat auditorium, large divisible conference space, and a café. LEED Gold certification is anticipated. Shading devices, combined with operable windows, displacement ventilation, and chilled beams, enhance user comfort and improve energy efficiency.
