Description: New center on the City of Hope campus is a self-contained translational research facility containing five floors of resources dedicated to advancing cancer research along with the education of future scientists. It provides an integrated research environment for scientists to pursue targeted therapies including immunotherapy, which uses the body’s natural immune system to fight cancer. Complementary approaches that enhance immunotherapy, such as molecular therapy, are also being investigated. The building’s program includes research labs, laboratory support spaces and equipments rooms; radiopharmacy suite, GMP-compliant cell production plant; faculty offices; open space for post-docs and administrative groups; collaboration spaces, conference rooms and an auditorium. The center will also house the City of Hope Irell & Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences. Funding included a $25 million grant from The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, which supports program-related, nonprofit research institutions to promote research in chemistry and the life sciences, broadly interpreted, and particularly to foster the invention of methods, instruments and materials that will open up new avenues of research in science.
