The New York City Dept. of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) and Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. have received the 2010 annual Safe-in-Sound award for an initiative to protect the hearing of construction-industry employees. The award is administered by NIOSH in cooperation with the National Hearing Conservation Assn. NYC DEP and Parsons Brinckerhoff cooperated to develop, implement and oversee the city’s Construction Noise Mitigation Rule, part of an update to the city’s Noise Code. Work-related exposures are addressed as part of the code. For more: http://safeinsound.us/winners.html
