The Names Behind Innovation
August 6, 2009
For years, R&D Magazine has been honoring the people behind some of the greatest innovations and discoveries in science with the Innovator of the Year and Scientist of the Year Awards. This year is no exception; R&D Magazine is again turning to the R&D community to help us identify the best minds in research and development by nominating candidates for our Innovator of the Year and Scientist of the Year awards. In keeping with the spirit of innovative solutions, R&D Magazine has introduced a new award, the Young Innovator of the Year Award, which will honor a gifted innovator age 30 or under.
Honored last year with Scientist of the Year was Intel Corp.’s Mario Paniccia for his revolutionary work on optical photonic components resulted in substantial breakthroughs that continue to pave the way to light-based computation and entirely new ways of handling information. Earning the title of Innovator of the Year last year was Cameron Piron, CEO of Sentinelle Medical Inc., for his Vanguard system, detachable imaging table that provides comfort, speed, and flexibility for breast cancer screening. His company continues to be a leader in the breast MRI coil market and the Vanguard system has been successful adapted to MRI products from the likes of Toshiba and GE.
R&D Magazine is now asking you, our readers, to find the year’s top scientist, top innovator, and top young innovator. Nominations are currently open and will stay open through Aug. 19, 2009. Voting will begin Aug. 25 and conclude on Sept. 4, 2009. Let us know who you think should receive our ultimate individual awards.
