2010 R&D 100 Winner
Developed by IBM Corporation (Hawthorne, N.Y.) and the U.S. Department of Defense, IBM InfoSphere Streams is a high-performance middleware execution platform that helps organizations analyze massive amounts of swiftly changing data and make predictions.
In conventional data analysis, queries—which may change over time—are applied against static data. In stream analytics, rapidly changing data is continuously evaluated by static questions. InfoSphere Streams allows the continuous queries to be modified over time. The software can ingest, filter, analyze, and correlate continuous streams of data from real-time sources. Users can create new applications on the fly in the form of stream processing graphs, which can be mapped to a wide variety of hardware configurations and adapted to changing requests and shifting priorities.
The platform supports high volume, structured, and unstructured streaming data sources such as images, audio, voice, VoIP, video, TV, financial news, radio, police scanners, Web traffic, email, chat, GPS data, financial transaction data, satellite data, sensors, badge swipes, and more.
