R&D Magazine is accepting nominations for the 2012 R&D 100 Awards, which identify and celebrate the top technology products and processes of 2011. The awards recognize innovation in all technology areas, including testing equipment, new materials, electronics, communication systems, chemistry breakthroughs, biomedical products, consumer items, manufacturing methods, software, and high-energy physics.
The R&D 100 Awards program, celebrating its 50th year, has been recognized as the "Oscars of Innovation". The Awards span industry, academia, and government-sponsored research. The revised deadline for entries is April 13, 2012.
“Winning an R&D 100 Award has provided a positive marketing boost to many new technology innovations,” says Rita Peters, editorial director of R&D Magazine. “The award not only recognizes the efforts of the development team and partners, but also enhances the reputation of the technology to potential customers.”
R&D 100 winners are selected on the basis of their importance, uniqueness, innovation, and usefulness by a panel of technical experts. Winners will be notified of the judges' decision on or about June 13, 2012. The names of these experts will be published in the R&D 100 Awards issue of R&D Magazine, published in September 2012. Winners are also recognized at a black-tie gala banquet on Nov. 1, 2012 in Orlando, Fla.
Eligibility
Any new technical product or process that was first available for purchase or licensing between Jan. 1, 2011, and Dec. 31, 2011, is eligible for the 2012 awards. Proof-of-concept prototypes do not qualify; the submitted entry must be in working, marketable condition.
To qualify, products requiring regulatory approval, such as drugs and medical devices, must have completed all trials and received approval for marketing by a governing regulatory authority such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or international counterparts. Complete eligibility requirements are listed on the application form.

“Entrants must complete an official application form and provide documented evidence of the science, materials, and mechanics supporting the technology,” says Peters. “The entry form guides participants through the application process.
